Book Is Headed to the Macao University of Tourism Library

I’m honored to share that a copy of Inspiration from 9,000 Miles Away is now in the hands of Dr. Ubaldino Sequeira Couto at Macao University of Tourism (UTM).

Dr. Couto is Associate Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Tourism Event Management programmes in the university’s Faculty of Innovative Hospitality Management. After the book is released on December 8, it will join the university library’s collection.

This means a great deal to me. Much of the book is about Macanese cuisine, the Portuguese-Chinese cooking of Macau. It grew out of four centuries of exchange, yet it remains little known in the United States.

UTM launched Macau’s first bachelor’s degree in culinary arts management. Soon, the book’s twelve Macanese recipes and the stories behind them will sit on a library shelf in the very place where this cuisine was born.

I visited this recently renovated library twice while researching the book. It warms my heart to know the book will soon find a home there, among its students.

This book began with a voice that traveled 9,000 miles to find me. Now the book has made that journey back.
